Another day, another Outdoor Episode. This time we head to Nanyuki!

As always nothing makes me as happy as packing for a trip but I needed to think through this one. I was going to spend my night at Maisha Sweet Waters which sits between Mount Kenyan and the Aberdare Range meaning those would be a cold stay! but then again I thought this would have been considered by the hotel and they would also have the measures in place! I did pack a few warm items and was ready to leave the house.

The following day, we left Nairobi at 7:30 am and as always, the neck pillow came in handy as I took a long nap. We had our first stop over at Sagana. A cup of coffee from the supermarket and a pastry and we got back on the road. It was a smooth road trip and we arrived at Maisha Sweetwaters Camp. It was quite a hot day and we were served a nice cocktail before we checked in. My suggestion on this one will always be to layer up. It never hurts as the weather is very unpredictable!

We checked in and our room faced the savannah. The room amenities as assumed did consider how cold it could get. We were booked into the Morani Tent what blew me away was the large Balcony that had the Sofa set, rest chairs and a coffee table. I headed out to lunch and it was beautiful . The spread of salads I think I counted 14 options. As always the fish just did it for me. The chef was on point from the display to the taste. It was all great!

I ordered a cocktail and headed to the heated pool! yes, you read that right! a heated swimming pool where I wasted the afternoon away! Rest and relaxation were very well achieved. I enjoyed a 4:00 pm tea and then sat in the lounge watching the breathtaking sunset over the savannah sipping on a glass of wine! It did give a romantic vibe I must attest.

For dinner, the chef did outdo himself but what caught my eye was the pizza station! Dinner was delicious and the dessert station was the highlight of my meal I must admit.

When did you last see a hare? yes, a hare! As I grabbed a jacket, I met a hare on the path. During the briefing I was warned I would meet with one or two … which made me realise how good at communication the team was. I headed out to the bonfire and it was very relaxing. As they say time flies when having fun.

When I got back to my room to call it a day, I couldn’t help but notice how beautifully Mount Kenya stood in the glaring lights of Nanyuki. I got in, took a hot shower and noticed a hot water bottle was already tucked into my bed and my bed sheets were already warm. At this point, it was cold so I switched on the heater and a few minutes later, I was all fuzzy and warm.

This thing we call time! It always knows when you are having a good time and it never lets you enjoy the small things in life because before I knew it, it was morning. I packed my stuff and was ready to leave but not before I had breakfast. As the norm, the chef did an outstanding job and I strived to make him proud. I was full, would be an understatement. The brewed coffee must have been made with love because it understood the assignment.

Our agenda for the day was to Visit the Ole Pajeta Conservancy. In particular the Chimpanzees and the Blind Black Rhino, Baraka and if lucky the famous White Rhinos . After breakfast, sad as I was for leaving, we checked out from Maisha SweetWaters Camp and we were off for another Outdoor Episode. Checkout was so easy I couldn’t believe it.

We were well received at the conservancy entry and the process was easy and digitized. As usual a souvenir at the gate and we were off. We so much wildlife on the way to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary. AstraZeneca was my favourite! little dude was just chilling living his best life with no care in the world.

After that we visited Baraka. some of these moments are for you to experience and just feel what I felt. Soon after we were off back home. In my 4 hour drive to Nairobi, I couldn’t help but think of how Maisha Mara brought out a romantic feel to the day and how Baraka’s story made me feel of how fragile life could be

Maisha Sweetwaters is one of my new favourites in the world and I can’t wait to go back!
