In the heart of the coastal city of Kenya lies a haven of tranquillity, where the golden rays of the sun dance upon pristine sands, and the azure waters of the Indian Ocean beckon with their gentle embrace. This is my home away from home!
My family and I have taken a trip to Sun N Sand Beach Resort every year for the last 5 years and it is a trip I look forward to as a mother and a wife. This time, we took the trip early in January as opposed to the usual December and it was the beginning of a new family tradition.
We took a morning trip with Jambo Jet to Mombasa and we were there by 11:00 am. We took an Uber to the hotel and we were in time for lunch. The hour-long drive to Sun N Sand carried a breeze, whispers of adventure, and the promise of relaxation hung thick in the air.
We were welcomed with a cold glass of juice and as we waited on the bellhops. Nestled amidst lush greenery and overlooking the endless expanse of the Indian Ocean there stood my home for the next 5 days. Stepping foot onto the grounds of Sun and Sand is like entering a realm of serenity. Every corner of the resort is adorned with touches of coastal charm – from the intricately designed architecture to the vibrant bursts of colour that adorn every corner.
After changing into lighter clothes, famished, we went into the restaurant and the buffet was beyond my expectations. I was honestly spoilt for choice. I honestly looked forward to the passion and/or lemon mousse.
We then changed into our swimming costumes and sat by the pool looking over into the ocean in time to watch the tide come in. As the sun set, we were able to sit by the Msafiri bar, in cozy seats and enjoy a cup of tea. The young one enjoyed his sodas and that was the first day.

For the rest of the week-long holiday, we got to enjoy all the pools and an amazing buffet spread. The weather was kind. We swam, we ate, we slept and we rested ready to enjoy the year.
One night, the staff sprung a surprise on us we did not see coming. So they started singing and they danced around the restaurant. I enjoyed the songs and even sang along until they stopped at our table with a celebratory cake. They celebrated our patronage and that melted my heart. What they did not know is Sun N Sand, for me, is a home away from home.
We then took the train home to enjoy the scenery and for the young one to enjoy what Kenya has to offer. We got home 6 hours later and we were ready to face the year!
Ultimately, a trip to Sun and Sand in Kikambala is more than just a vacation – it’s a stay a home away from home. We enjoyed our stay here which exceeded my expectations, from the swift check-in to the culinary delights crafted by the head chef. We enjoyed the diverse buffet, pools, and the overall serenity of the hotel.
See you in January 2025 Sun N Sand
